You Can Help Prevent Cavities and Tooth Sensitivity Issues with a Fluoride Treatment

Posted .

Your tooth enamel is made up of densely packed mineral crystal structures. The bacteria living in your mouth and the acidic foods and beverages you consume can slowly erode these minerals creating microscopic textures and pores in your tooth enamel. In time, this makes your teeth more prone to developing cavities and tooth sensitivity problems.

This can all be countered by having one of our dental professionals, Dr. Mike and Mark Musso, or Dr. Mark Waggoner administer a basic fluoride treatment at the end of your regular dental checkup and cleaning. Professionally-applied fluorides are in the form of a gel, foam or rinse. These fluorides are more concentrated than self-applied fluorides and therefore are not needed as frequently. Following ADA recommended guidelines, we only use professional strength, tray-applied gels or foam products carrying the ADA Seal of Acceptance.

To maintain the strength of your teeth going forward you might want to try to limit exposure to acidic foods and beverages. You might also want to try brushing your teeth with a brand of toothpaste that contains added fluoride.

If you’re concerned that your tooth decay and sensitivity issues might be linked to weakened tooth enamel, please call our Musso Family Dentistry team in Garland, Texas at 972-840-8477 to ask about a fluoride treatment.
