How to Have a Healthy Smile: The Encouraged Lunchbox Snacks

Posted .

Your dentist, Dr. Mike Musso, and our dental team care about your child’s oral health and smile. In fact, we care about it so much that we ask you, as a parent, to help your child grow into the strong and healthy smile they deserve. To help you do so, we encourage you to motivate your child to keep up on oral hygiene and visit your dentist every six months. We also encourage you to help them have a tooth-healthy diet. You can help achieve this goal by packing your child tooth-healthy snacks for lunch.

When packing your child’s lunch, our dental team encourages you to do the following things:

-Don’t pack applesauce: Applesauce is practical and portable, which makes things extremely convenient. However, it’s not convenient for your child’s smile. Applesauce is packed with natural and added sugar that can cause tooth decay. Instead of applesauce, pack a small container of cottage cheese.

-Choose real fruit: Oftentimes fruit snacks and fruit leathers find their way into the lunchbox. However, they can be extremely dangerous to the smile because they cling to the teeth and promote plaque buildup. Instead of packing these snacks, pack real fruit, like grapes, oranges, bananas, and apples.

-Provide plain milk: Chocolate, strawberry, and other flavors of milk can be harmful to the teeth because they coat the smile with sugar. This is why it’s best to pack plain milk in your child’s lunch. If they aren’t intrigued by the plain milk, you can always add food coloring.

If you give your child tooth-healthy snacks on a regular basis, there is a high chance they’ll achieve the pristine oral health and smile they want and need.
