Having a Tooth Pulled? Here’s How to Prepare

Posted .

Tooth extractions can be nerve wracking and scary at times, but they are quite necessary for restoring your oral health. So, if you are waiting to get your decayed, infected, or damaged tooth removed, please feel free to prepare for the surgery by doing the following things:

Confirm your plans
Make sure you know what time your appointment is scheduled so you won’t be late. Knowing what time you will need to be here will help you plan your day so it will work around your appointment. We also recommend confirming your travel arrangements. If we haven’t told you already, you will need a ride to and from the office because the dental sedation might not allow you to drive.

Follow the food instructions
It’s very important that you follow the food instructions. We generally recommend that patients fast 8-12 hours before their appointment, so please do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before.

Ask your dentist for the details
If you are scared or nervous about your tooth extraction, we encourage you to talk to your dentist about the details of the treatment. Knowing what to expect in the dental chair helps many patients feel more comfortable in the hands of the dentist. So, please feel free to ask your dentist for details if you desire.

If you do these three things, you will be prepared for your appointment and you will have a smooth and trouble-free appointment when you come into our office. We want you to have the best dental experience possible, and we are here to help you in any way we can so we can help make that happen. So, if there’s anything you need from us or if you have any questions, please feel free to call Musso Family Dentistry today at 972-840-8477. Dr. Mike Musso and our entire dental team are thrilled to help you!
